In Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, players challenging the Medali Gym must first clear a unique test before battling the Normal-type Gym Leader, Larry. This task requires collecting hidden hints scattered around the city to place the correct order for a secret menu item at the local Treasure Eatery.
Understanding the Medali Gym Challenge
Unlike traditional gym trials that focus purely on consecutive battle mechanics, the Medali Gym test blends urban exploration with light puzzle solving. Trainers are tasked with seeking out specific NPCs around town to unlock clues or simply using deduction skills to guess the right dish components.
Completing the challenge grants immediate access to the dining room battle arena where Larry awaits. While you can battle local student trainers for experience, knowing the answers in advance allows you to bypass extra steps if desired.
Gathering the Four Secret Dish Clues
The first hint comes from talking to a regular customer sitting at the eatery bar who suggests adding fresh lemon for seasoning. To find the second clue, players must check the ice cream stand's inventory, which strangely lists grilled rice balls as an available item. The remaining clues are hidden near the city amphitheater stairs revealing Fire Blast style and a chatty Squawkabilly shouting medium serving size.
Each clue corresponds to one of the four interactive prompts presented by the restaurant waiter at the entrance. Tracking down every clue provides a fun way to interact with Medali's residents while preparing for the upcoming gym battle.
The Exact Secret Menu Item Solution
When you speak to the server wearing the green apron at the Treasure Eatery, select Grilled Rice Balls as your initial main dish choice. Next, choose Medium for the serving size followed by Extra Crispy, Fire Blast style for the cooking preparation. Finally, select Lemon as your requested side seasoning to complete the order successfully.
Once the server confirms the special order, the entire dining area transforms into a formal battle field. You will immediately begin your showdown against Larry and his formidable Normal-type team.
